Blue Space History
Artist Statement
This series of colored pencil drawings is meant to memorialize some sad or stressful moments in the history of space exploration. The drawings depict the space monkeys, the dying crew of the Columbia, and Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in orbit. Although these are not all tragic, they evoke a sense of melancholy for different underlying reasons. Each subject is drawn with a constellation in the background that helps clarify motivations for space exploration for differing parties.
